A blanket is a great gift to give
to the needy, to our troops or to anyone else for that matter
and fleece is a great fabric to make it from. It is warm,
soft, washable and can easily be cut and made into a blanket
by practically anyone without doing any sewing.
To get your fleece blanket project going just follow these
Select the style of blanket
you would like to make:
a) A simple blanket
can be made just by cutting a single layer of fabric to size
and rolling it up.
Or, use two pieces of fleece to make Kwik-Sew's classic no-sew
blanket with knotted fringes. You can download their instructions
For a slightly more involved and tailored edge use this braided
no-sew edge for your blanket. Instructions are in a tutorial
the number of yards of fleece you will need. To start, decide
on the style of blanket (a,
b or c
above), the size (see below) and whether there are
to be one or two layers of fleece. If you like, we'd be glad
to help you figure out how much fleece your project will need.
a) infant receiving
blankets are usually 30-inch squares;
b) crib blankets
are about 30 to 36 inches wide and 48 inches long;
c) lap blankets
are 48-inch squares; and,
d) stadium blankets
